Bacardi Limited, founded by Don Facundo Bacard Mass in February 1862, is the biggest spirits company in the world owned by a family. Originally, the company started in Santiago de Cuba and now its headquarters is located in Hamilton, Bermuda.

As part of Bacardi Limited’s corporate responsibility policy, it made a commitment to the environment. They aim to be the industry leader in management responsibility, so they developed the Bacardi Environment, Health and Safety plan managed by the Bacardi Environment, Health and Safety Steering Group. The Bacardi EHS Steering Group’s main task is to ensure that all of Bacardi’s operations comply with international standards and practices beginning March 2008. Another function of the Bacardi Environment, Health and Safety plan is to make sure that all of Bacardi’s manufacturing facilities follow the international standards by this year, 2009.

In 1995, Bacardi partnered with the Stockholm Water Foundation as part of their efforts to be conscious of the plight of the environment. They donated $2 million to the foundation in support of the group’s environmental efforts of improving water conservation all over the world.

Bacardi has also given to the Bahamas National Trust, a nonprofit group that works for the conservation and protection of the environment while also finding ways to manage and develop a Bahamas national park system. Bacardi Limited’s donation will help wetlands, including the expansion of a viewing platform and boardwalk that will enable people to observe the Bahama swallow and 100 other bird species.
